The 10th Victim

THE ORIGINAL SEXY '60s CULT CLASSIC IS BACK!
It is the 21st Century, and society's lust for violence is satisfied by "The Big Hunt," an international game of legalized murder. But when the sport's two top assassins (Marcello Mastroianni and Ursula Andress) are pitted against each other, they find that love is the most dangerous game of all. As the world watches, the hunt is on. Who will become THE 10TH VICTIM?

THE 10TH VICTIM is the international cult classic whose wild action and sexy style has influenced a generation of movies, from THE RUNNING MAN to the AUSTIN POWERS series. Remastered from original archival negative materials, this outrageous satire is presented here in its original Italian language with optional English subtitles.

This Movie ROCKS. Set in a fictional world where there is a "great hunt" - that the characters are participants in. This hunt assigns the players as either victims or hunters, with the hunters holding all the info on their victim, and the victim left in the dark except for a notification that the game is on, and to be on the look out.

The 10th kill, is a landmark for the players, with prizes and world wide acclaim.

Great story, well wrought, very stylized in that 60's way, that seems to have been lost in the films of today. Of the films from the Blue Underground library that I have had the pleasure to review, this one is right up there at the top of my favorites list. Marcello Mastroianni and Ursula Andress delivered this plot with brilliance and just enough camp to let us know that essentially this was a romantic comedy, peppered with substantial bouts of action and very smart dialogue. A fast paced, tightly woven narrative, augmented by interesting and artistic camera work. An excellent movie with stunning visuals, and a lush laid back style. You will enjoy this one.

Succubus

THE SENSUAL EXPERIENCE OF '69
At a chic nightclub for jaded jetsetters, a simulated snuff performance is the main attraction, and Lorna, its leading lady, is the obsession of men and women alike. Little do they realize that Lorna's Mephistophelean manager has transformed her into "the essence of evil... a devil on earth!" Soon the sensuous starlet's stage persona possesses her entirely, thrusting Lorna into a hallucinatory world of sadomasochistic excess and drawing everyone she touches into her debaucherous delirium. Can anyone stop Lorna before her perverse stage show becomes a murderous reality?

Starring the beautiful Janine Reynaud (TWO UNDERCOVER ANGELS, KISS ME, MONSTER), Jack Taylor (THE GHOST GALLEON, THE NINTH GATE) and Howard Vernon (THE AWFUL DR. ORLOFF, DELICATESSEN), Jess Franco's (99 WOMEN, VAMPYROS LESBOS) Faustian fever dream provides the blue-print for the erotic horror that has become the infamous director's enduring legacy. Newly remastered from original vault materials, SUCCUBUS features exclusive Extras, including revealing interviews with Jess Franco and Jack Taylor!

DVD EXTRAS-

From Necronomicon To Succubus - Interview with Director Jess Franco
Back In Berlin - Interview with Star Jack Taylor
Theatrical Trailer

Succubus is loaded with really cool costumes, and sets. The mid and late 60's were so lushly attired, as portrayed in Franco's films, that I feel like we men of today get the short end of the stick, fashion wise. The scene that jumps out as my favorite involves a scampering Tranny, and a Little Person at a late night Acid soiree. The Acid is served over a silver platter held under each benefactors chin and placed in the mouth by the servers fingers. The party realllly got cool once everyone strated tripping. The way they showed each persons hallucinations impressed me and made me laugh, all at the same time. Succubus is the story of a deal gone awry, as most deals made with the devil are wont to do.

The roommate say's - "It was non linear, and sometimes difficult to follow, but very visually enticing."

So enjoy Blue Underground's release of Succubus, the next time you are in the mood for a spooky 60's, yet never "out moded" classic by the legend Jess Franco.

No sleazehound whos seen it can ever forget FIGHT FOR YOUR LIFE!

Censored across America and banned outright in Britain, FIGHT FOR YOUR LIFE was released in various chopped-down versions as I HATE YOUR GUTS, STAYING ALIVE, GETTING EVEN and even THE HOSTAGE'S BLOODY REVENGE. OK, here's is a random story that comes to mind when i watched this movie.
I collect books, and in answering an ad, I ended up way out in the Valley (thats north of LA for those of you who arent familiar). And was invited by my host to poke around through several boxes of books to see if I wanted anything. I did so and found a gem or two among the large mass of books and odds and ends piled up in the yard of this gorgeous house. I ended up with a box of dismembered barbie dolls (yay!) and and old rifle barrel from a Winchester, and a sterling silver and glass carafe with a little base that holds a candle to keep your coffee hot. Oh, yeah i got some books too. Anyways, my host and I indulged ourselves in the "Hi how are you" chit chat thing, and came to realize that we had certain friends in common. My host was none other than Straw Weisman! I was actually taken aback, as I knew i had one of his movies on the review list at the office. Straw was most hospitable, and shared some of his thoughts on the movie with me, once I told him that i would be reviewing Fight For Your Life. Basically, he said that he loved working on this movie, and was proud to have it in his list of things done in this world. We didn't talk long, but I was left with the impression, that the world sure hadnt seen the last of this guy, or his movies, as his IMDB should plainly illustrate. Now how random cool is that?

and now- the review....

The opening sequences are really cool. They show how being in the wrong place at the wrong time can land you in some huge drama. That unsuspecting pimp just was trying to get his sack back from his less than honest employee! then Blammo! Next thing he knows, his car has been jacked, and his clothes stolen, he witnesses prisoners escape, and kill their gaurd, and is un ceremoniously left to fend for himself, as the car jackers throw him from the car in nothing but his undies. Poor guy! Now our main characters have a car, and one of em is wearing the pimps clothes, and the main bad ass himself is packing the gun he took from the guard, whom he shot with his own weapon. The prisoners tear ass across NY tring to make the border of Canada where William Sanderson (Blade Runner) who palys the character of escaped convict "Jessie Lee Kane" promises his cohorts, transportation to Paris to check out the honeys, and evade the rest of their jail terms in the States. Its a typical jail break and run for a while. Until, they take a hostage. The Hostage leads them to her home, and things go bad VERY quickly, as Jessie and the boys make themselves a little too at home, while waiting for night to fall so they can continue on thier run for the border. The tables get turned! I dont want to give too much away, so I will stop there, and suffice to say that "do unto others, lest they turn around and kill you"
is sort of in the bible somewhere. i think. hah!

Cool Movie! Several VERY brutal scenes, with one gut clenching "No fucking way!" moment in particular, that actually had me holding my breath. And in a grindhouse genre flick like this, thats very high praise!

Henry Miller's Quiet Days in Clichy

NOW UNCUT AND UNCENSORED!
Based on the Novel by Henry Miller
Original Music by Country Joe McDonald

Joey is a struggling writer with no money. His roommate Carl is a charming stud with a taste for young girls. Together, these two insatiable dreamers will laugh, love and screw their way through a decadent Paris paved with wanton women, wild orgies and outrageous erotic adventures. Based upon the long-banned novel by Henry Miller, QUIET DAYS IN CLICHY is considered to be the most daring film adaptation ever of one of the most controversial authors in history.

In May of 1970, the United States Government seized the only English-language prints of QUIET DAYS IN CLICHY on charges of obscenity. And while it was ultimately cleared in Federal Court, the film mysteriously disappeared shortly after its release. Now more than 30 years later, this landmark 'adults only' classic can again be seen completely uncut and uncensored and featuring the original hit soundtrack by rock legend Country Joe McDonald

EXTRAS

-Dirty Books, Dirty Movies: Barney Rosset on Henry Miller
-Interview with Henry Miller's editor and publisher Barney Rosset
-Songs of Clichy - Interview with Country Joe McDonald
-Poster & Still Gallery
-Talent Bios
-Court Documents (DVD-ROM)

Henry Miller has long been a favorite among many different segments of our lovely American Melting Pot. I remember reading Tropic of Cancer and listening to the poems of spoken word artists
in the old ONYX cafe in Los Feliz over on Vermont. This movie could have been made about those times. Those people. Some more than others, of course. But I digress...

Can you imagine what the world must have been like when this was actually banned? And to know it was banned in 1970, with the post 60's thing going on all over the country, well, then you can imagine what this film is. And, please keep in mind that the book was published 14 years before that!!

Quiet Days in Clichy, Paris: Olympia Press, 1956. ISBN 0-8021-3016-X

The film follows Carl and Joey (clearly meant to be Henry Miller) through a short period of time, as they work (off screen mostly) and the random encounters with women in the Paris cafes, clubs, and sidewalks. There is a scene where the boys, having decided to get out of Paris for a time following a rather harrowing encounter with the parents of one of their live-in girlfriends who inform them that she is only 15, find themselves in a Luxembourg night-club. The Saxophone player is none other than the legendary Ben Webster. This film, and it is a film, as opposed to a movie, is raw, real, and more in tune with the things men and women struggle with than most of its viewers may like to admit. Shot entirely in Black and white, with a very pertinent and story based soundtrack by Woodstock performer Country Joe McDonald. This film is GREAT. It is rich and something to be savored. Offered COMPLETELY uncut by the company that, at times like this one, makes me proud to work there - Blue Underground. The censors didnt like it. They didn't want you to see it. So come see a few weeks in the life of one of America's most celebrated authors, Mr. Henry Miller.

Midnight Blue Vol 7 - Porn Stars of the 90s

As more and more porn videos were cranked out daily on the West Coast, Al Goldstein and late-night cable's MIDNIGHT BLUE were there to document every smutty second. In these segments from the early '90s, the new regime of porn stars candidly open up as never before:

Teri Weigel - The stunning Playboy Playmate turned porn superstar discusses her start in the business, and what it's like having sex with her husband both on-screen and off.
Viper - This pierced and heavily-tattooed star of FEAKSHOW proves she really is, giving Al the most bizarre interview in the history of MIDNIGHT BLUE.
Christy Canyon - The legendary erotic superstar (and her 100% all-natural 36-DD's) shares her thoughts on sex, violence and exploitation in movies.
Jeanna Fine - This schizophrenic, bisexual porn actress talks about doing it with Larry Flynt, loving anal sex, and giving the perfect BJ.
Ashlyn Gere - The beautiful B-movie actress turned porn star candidly chats about maintaining her acting career while starring in adult movies.

...plus XXX actresses Veronica Vera, Holly Ryder, Sharon Kane, and Nikki Dial, studs Tom Byron and Randy West, an erotic dance by Hyapatia Lee, as well as steamy video clips, original phone sex commercials & NYC escort ads and more!

YOU HAVE NOT SEEN WHAT I HAVE SEEN. Shocking. amazing! scary! sexy! thought provoking!

There are few things in life as amazingly dope as Hyapatia Lee doing the Robot, while wearing a bikini thats studded with teeny tiny little mirrors, like a damn disco ball.

I have alot of friends who make movies. We are all a creative bunch. After this project I feel as though i know the Midnight Blue staff; Lenny, Ivan, Rikk, Gruberg, and Steve Kraus oh shit. Jackie Park.
Like they just havent called in a while. If it was possible to get a MIDNIGHT BLUE t shirt these days it would instantly become my favorite shirt. INSTANTLY.

This Series is essentially the story of Midnight Blue (or MB as we refer to it since we say it like 100 times a day sometimes over here) and you cant tell the story of Midnight Blue, without telling the story of Al Goldstein. Love him or hate him, and he is certainly an extreme, you OWE him. He was kicking down the obscenity laws that stiffled our country WAAYYYY back. First He was a photographer, then he put out a lovely (and honestly VERY funny) and not to mention, very early(1968) 'magazine', called "SCREW". This magazine featured ART on the cover by such personages as Vaughn Bode, and R. Crumb.

These MB dvds are an amazing journey through so many things. Porn people through the years, fashion, music, artists, giving people the finger, who Al happens to be pissed off at at the moment, where Al plans to have lunch, why *did* YOU get into porn?

THE COMMERCIALS, are out fucking standing. Some of them are sooooo sneaky that you will pop up from a deep sleep months later with a burning desire to call over to Plato's Retreat and arrange for a jacuzzi room. Its cable, its underground, its porn, its real, its what they were like. If you are interested in the history of such things, sociology, and the like, youd enjoy this. If you alwasy wish you could get on TV and tell the president to fuck off, you will like this.

I like this.

and serious, Hyapatia Lee doing the robot....
it's just sublime.

Midnight Blue Vol 6 - Porn Stars of the 80's

As the popularity of the porn industry grew due to the advent of home video, late-night cable's MIDNIGHT BLUE was there to cover every raunchy moment! In these segments from the '80s, the rising porn stars of the time expose themselves like never before:

Vanessa Del Rio - The legendary ethnic superstar falls prey to interviewer Steve Kraus on the floor of the infamous Screw "Penthouse".
Ron Jeremy - After a sidesplitting stand-up comedy routine, the "Number One Porn Star of All Time" discusses his acting career and demonstrates the fine art of kissing.
Annette Haven - The most beautiful woman in adult films reveals her thoughts on the sex business and her fellow actresses.
Veronica Hart - Following a bizarre fantasy sequence featuring Al Goldstein, this beloved actress sits down for a candid chat about her early career.
Nina Hartley - The hardest working woman in porn shares her opinions on feminism and sex films, before being forced to undress for the cameras.

...plus XXX actresses Desiree Cousteau, Krista Lane, Tiffany Clark, and Samantha Fox, studs/directors Paul Thomas and John Leslie, MIDNIGHT BLUE regulars Annie Sprinkle and Jackie Park, as well as outrageous film clips, vintage phone sex & escort ads and more!

Go ahead, ask me anything about Al Goldstein or his legendary New York cable show
"Midnight Blue". I watched EVERY episode (almost) of the thing, along the way to putting this DVD together. I dreamt Al Goldstein. I could go on for days. In fact I HAVE gone on for days. My friends began to open conversations with "So whats Al up to now?". Al AL AL ! This is the life of a guy, the show of a guy, who had damn near everything. stay tuned for more discs! more volumes! Because it is an example of how to LOSE everything! DAMN what a life. This poor guy. This guy went to bat for us!
For you! Not even Pepsi ads on TV would be the same with out this guy.

He sued and was sued by everyone. up to Supreme Court Levels. for....OBSCENITY.

He went head to head with Pat Robertson! man. i have to stop. If you have questions, feel free to ask me. Theres so much.

The project took more than a year, just to sift the footage! and now, here, we are rather well, not proud exactly, more sort of "Man, people should know about this guy, so its like our duty to make these discs. THIS is what it was LIKE. and people just DONT KNOW." So, go get this, check it out. watch it all the way to the end and see me with my wopping second DVD credit of all time.
