GRAND SLAM

From Paris, Rome, New York, London... A Carnival of Thieves comes to Rio to make a Grand Slam!
A quiet yet cunning schoolteacher recruits an elite team of international criminals for the ultimate caper: robbing $10 million in diamonds from an impenetrable Rio de Janeiro vault at the frenzied peak of the city's Carnival. The planning is meticulous. The crime must run like clockwork. But even if they can pull off the most daring theft in criminal history, are the wildest surprises of all yet to come?

Often imitated but never surpassed, GRAND SLAM is a classic heist thriller in the tradition of RIFIFI, THE SCORE and OCEAN'S ELEVEN, with one of the best twist endings of the 1960s. Hollywood legend Edward G. Robinson, Klaus Kinski (NOSFERATU), Janet Leigh (PSYCHO) and Adolfo Celi (THUNDERBALL) head an international cast in this white-knuckle hit that also features an ultra-swinging theme score by the legendary Ennio Morricone.

MONDO CANE

"All the scenes you will see in this film are true. If they are shocking, it is only because there are many shocking things in this world..."

With those words, Directors Gualtiero Jacopetti, Paolo Cavara and Franco Prosperi unleashed the international sensation that stunned critics and moviegoers alike while revolutionizing the documentary genre forever. Filmed in every corner of the world, this landmark epic explores the culture of life and death, the anguish of man and beast, and the taboos of sex and religion, all amidst the barbarism of civilization gone insane. Sometimes beautiful, often horrifying yet always surprising, it remains one of the most disturbing and controversial films of our time. This is the original 'Shockumentary' that started it all. This is MONDO CANE.

MONDO CANE (Italian for "Dog's World") also features a brilliant score by Nino Oliviero and Riz Ortolani that includes the Oscar nominated theme song "More." Blue Underground has painstakingly restored this historic feature from original Italian vault materials untouched for over four decades, and then added an extraordinary collection of all-new and never-before-seen Extras for the absolute ultimate in MONDO-mania!

Personally I didn't find it sickening at all. I found it brilliant.
A stunning master-work of juxtaposed cultures. A montage of things mundane and bizarre, lovingly assembled to highlight the similarities of all mankind. From high rise shopping stores, to stone age New Guinea, Japanese bath houses, to underwater Malay cemeteries. The PLUMAGE might change, but the purpose does not! Life, death, and everything in between. Its a very thought provoking film. I had to step back and throw a fizzball into a hot tub of water and light some incense, and immerse myself into the fragrant steam cloud that rose above my bathtub, and soak for about an hour in order to re ground myself in modern day civilization. HAH! what a wonderful and varied species is man. So much that we, though separated by miles and culture and faiths, have in common. And the glaring differences. From catholics to cargo cults. It's a glorious tapestry and this film does its best to show us some of the vibrant threads that make up that indescribable web that is all of us, all the time. I highly recommend this film. You are the point of it after all. We all are.

SMITHEREENS

From SUSAN SEIDELMAN, Director of DESPERATELY SEEKING SUSAN And SEX AND THE CITY
Filmmaker Susan Seidelman rocked the movie industry with this daring and quirky story of Wren (Susan Berman), a self-promoting Jersey girl desperate to break into the downtown Manhattan music scene. But with no money and no talent, she bounces between a nice guy artist (Brad Rinn) who lives in his van and an arrogant musician (Punk icon Richard Hell) who lives off of anyone who will let him.

SMITHEREENS - which also marked the debut of Oscar-nominated screenwriter Ron Nyswaner (PHILADELPHIA) and features a score by beloved cult band The Feelies - remains a remarkable time capsule of the early 80s East Village scene and made history as the first American independent film invited to compete for the Golden Palm Award at the Cannes Film Festival.

"Funny & Eccentric!"
-The New York Times

Yup. We've all met Wren. A blind dreamer without a pot to piss in, surviving on the goodness of others, of whose sacrifices on her behalf she is completely oblivious to. Always looking to trade up on a moments notice, bye thanks, been fun, gotta jet, plans you know? something came up, anyways I gotta split. She's basically a level below hipster, a new low, a wanna-be hipster I guess. A winner right? This film is her story. She insinuates herself into the lives of a few people who are at a loss as to what to do with/about this wacky chick. She just wants to sign autographs and eat tacos by the pool. Her words. Yet she doesn't seem to have reason why anyone would care for her company, much less her autograph. She's basically a fame seeker and a wanna be entourage member to anyone. She sucks and its fun to watch her descent into her just rewards. Kinda a cool movie. Very

DEAD & BURIED

The Creators Of ALIEN Bring A New Terror To Earth

Something very strange is happening in the quiet coastal village of Potters Bluff, where tourists and transients are warmly welcomed... then brutally murdered. But even more shocking is when these slain strangers suddenly reappear as normal, friendly citizens around town. Now the local sheriff (James Farentino of THE FINAL COUNTDOWN) and an eccentric mortician (Oscar winner Jack Albertson in his final feature film appearance) must uncover the horrific secret of a community where some terrifying traditions are alive and well... and no one is ever really DEAD & BURIED.

Robert Englund (A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET) co-stars in this genuinely chilling horror hit written by Ronald Shusett and Dan O'Bannon (ALIEN), directed by Gary A. Sherman (RAW MEAT), and featuring ultra-grisly gore effects by Oscar winner Stan Winston (ALIENS, TERMINATOR 2). DEAD & BURIED is now presented in eye-popping High Definition, completely uncut and uncensored, and loaded with revealing Extras.

Ahhhh! Nothing like a nice cup of piping hot Aztec Hot Chocolate and a modern story of reanimating the dead on a mid November evening. This movie brings you in slowly, murder is just the beginning, you see. The rest, well, lets just say there's really more to it than I was able to suss out until the end. Poor Sheriff Dan. Has the perfect wife, the badge in a small town, lots of friends and charming local neighbors. There's Old Dobs the Coroner/Mortician with a penchant for trying to twist as much cash out of the county as he can for his work. There are photographers, hitch hikers, and waitresses, gas guys, doctors, fishermen, housewives, and they all have one thing in common. Aside from living in the same town that it is. Or on second thought, strike "living" from that last sentence and insert "being in" and maybe a picture will begin to form in your mind of where this film inevitably ended up going. I enjoyed it. Tons of character actors from a wide range of films, and alot of foggy nights, and a dash of morticians wax for the occasional touch up, and you're ready for Dead & Buried.

THE PROWLER

If you think you're safe, you're DEAD wrong!
Avalon Bay, 1945: On the night of her graduation dance, young Rosemary and her date are brutally murdered by a prowler thought to be a jilted soldier home from the war. The killer was never found. 30 years later, the dance is held again for the first time since that horrific evening - but something else may have also returned Tonight, the teens of this sleepy town will meet their grisly ends at the hands - and pitchfork, blade and more - of THE PROWLER!

Also known as ROSEMARYS KILLER, this gruesome shocker is one of the cruelest body-count movies of the 80s, thanks to razor-sharp direction by Joseph Zito (FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE FINAL CHAPTER) and graphic gore effects by Tom Savini (DAWN OF THE DEAD, MANIAC). Hollywood legends Farley Granger (STRANGERS ON A TRAIN) and Lawrence Tierney (RESERVOIR DOGS) star in this rarely seen sleeper from the golden age of slasher films - now presented completely uncut and uncensored!

"Intense And Suspenseful! One Of The Better Slasher Bloodbaths!"
-Creature Features Movie Guide

Total slasher flick from start to finish. If youre into "No, dont go into the dark hallway alone" and "Dont open that door" moment's then this flick is right up your alley.

Plot wise, it had me guessing right up to the end, which is nice. Neatly tied off, with just a little mental work to get an idea of the "why". Well done gore effects, but we can expect nothing less than a master like Mr Savini. I especially enjoyed the use of the pitchfork as weapon in this one. Lots of chills, and thrills, it must have knocked em dead at the drive in back in the day. All in all, a classic example of the genre of slasher flicks.

BARE BEHIND BARS

Behind Bars No One Can Hear You Scream!
In a women's penitentiary where brutal beatings, steamy showers, and full cavity searches are the order of the day, the cons are turning into pros - and the cemetery is running out of room! To stay out of the torture chamber, the inmates can barter their bodies in the wicked warden's white slave trade, or submit to the nympho nurse's peculiar brand of medical malpractice. But when these lawless lovelies go on the lam to wreak vengeance on straight society, no one will be safe!

Prolific purveyor of perversion Oswaldo De Oliveira's (AMAZON JAIL) piece de resistance is presented here in its X-Rated entirety. A cornucopia of comely convicts (including International beauty queen Marta Anderson of MASSACRE IN DINOSAUR VALLEY and PERVERSION Scream Queen Nadia Destro) bare it all, as every frame of vicious violence, savage sexuality, and inappropriate use of pineapples, is presented pristine and intact for the first time ever in America!

"Chicks-In-Prison Flick That Will Make You Need A Shower!"
-Scott Weinberg, EFilmCritic.com

"Sleazy But Fun Exploitation Movie!"
-Sex Gore Mutants

So THATS what goes in on Brazilian Womens Prisons! I was wondering. Well, in this film the inmates run around the yard in makeshift "gowns" or thigh length button up shirt dress thingys and play soccer. Until someone gets shanked! Then the mean guards whose uniform code seems to dictate that shirts be unbuttoned and bra's are a big no no, turn the fire hose on 'em! Take that you dirty dastardly criminal women! Its a fun movie, in its way, with a Nurse who seems to enjoy a snort of ether a bit too often to maintain a healthy IQ, a warden who augments her state salary by selling off the occasional inmate as a slave, and whole lively crew of inmates who seem to have nothing better to do than have crazy amounts of sex and plot escape attempts. The above quoted "inappropriate use of pineapples" got my attention. becasue those things are pointy and have sharp skins! Sp let me reasure you, the pineapple is carved into a more managable shape. Still and all, this film is rated x, and while it isnt out and out porn, it does indeed cross that line from time to time, but (amazingly) always in service to the plot and story. A trio of the inmates escape during a carnivale Mass, and end up dancing thier way down the streets staight into trouble. This is the part where i flinched. yeah. This movie made me flinch, and caused my roomie (an english professor) to yell "WHAT THE FUCK DID SHE FEED TO THAT DOG!?!?!?" This trio of inmates is free, and boy, do they have alot of pent up anger to work out. All in all, an entertaining movie, if you like soapy shower scenes, the occasional murder, and about a square mile of T & A.

Yes! I love it when groups of upper crust socialites attend missions to the cannibal infested jungle to rescue a (now grown up) kidnapped daughter of a scientist and treat it as a sort of yacht party entertainment, complete with on board drinks and hi-fi stereo sounds. Of course, the scientis/father is well aware of the gravity of the situation, having only narowly escaped with his life years before. In fact, he left his left arm behind as well. AND his wife (munched upon, yet whose remains are still worshipped to this day as "White Goddess number one")as well as his toddler daughter. Now the daughter has been raised by the scary face painted cannibals (who through some miracle of genetics appear to be very mutli cultural in ethnicity) to be their living goddess. Not a bad gig for her. She marries into the tribe pretty well, and does goddess stuff for them, with only vague memories of life before. However, when confronted with her newly recaptured pops, she begins to flash back to days of pink dresses and ponies, and decides to allow him to escape. Daddy and the surviving socialite dash through the jungle and circle back to re-kidnap the girl. Of course she isnt in the frame of mind to give up goddesshood, husband etc, and Daddy has to knock her out and carry her out of the jungles. One armed mind you. Until the chilling conclusion when the enraged cannibals catch up to them at the banks of a river and the climactic mano a mano fight for the ownership of the girl ensues. It's lavish.

Take your left arm and bend it at the elbow reaching for your own armpit, now tie it that way with string or something, put on a white t shirt and go frolic in a river for a while and you will get an idea of the level of brilliant cinematography required to not sow the "amputated and eaten" arm in a river fight scene.

Jess Franco is a master. This movie makes me feel like I can go rush right out and make a film too. Just get 30 friends, a botanical garden (as the jungle) plenty of raw steak and add a g-string wearing cannibal white girl (who had a bikini tan line framing her ass, I might ad) and you will be right there with me screaming "Achtung!" (yes I know its German, dont ask me why the cannibals screamed it) and together we, too, shall walk the red carpets and bask in the glory of a bigtime premier. WHOSE WITH ME?!?!??!?!?!
